East Greenwich Rotary will be awarding five community service awards to individuals who have shown outstanding community service. At least one award will be to someone under the age of 18.

What is different about these awards is that East Greenwich Rotary is celebrating its 50th anniversary and to commemorate the event we felt that by honoring “unsung heroes” in our community we would highlight what Rotarians have been doing in our community for the past 50 years – "Service above Self."

Each finalist will be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship which is the highest service award given by Rotary International. This award is named for the founder of Rotary and indicates the recipient’s devotion to the ideal of “service above self.” In addition, the winners will each receive a check for $500 written to the charity of his/her choice.

We need the community's help to identify folks that have given selflessly to help others and we want you to nominate those individuals you feel deserve our recognition, respect, and thanks. The nominees must be either East Greenwich residents or have performed their service in East Greenwich or the contiguous communities. The qualifications and descriptions of what types of service will be considered are in the application that can be downloaded from the East Greenwich Rotary website www.egrotary.com. We will be accepting applications until December 15, 2012.  

The finalists will be announced by the end of January 2013. East Greenwich Rotary will be giving out the awards as part of our 50th Anniversary Grand Celebration banquet on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Crowne Plaze in Warwick. We absolutely want to have as many members of our community as possible to attend this celebration! We have enjoyed their support all these years and many in our community are also members of the various charities and local groups who have been the recipients of the proceeds from our fund-raising events, so we would love for all of them to come and celebrate this awesome organization, the East Greenwich Rotary!
