Free Cooking Oil Collection At Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation!
For Rhode Island residents deep frying their turkeys this Thanksgiving, the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) provides the perfect recycling service for that leftover waste – a cooking oil collection that recycles and converts the waste into alternative, sustainable fuel.
At the cooking oil collection service that RIRRC provides year-round, residents simply visit the small vehicle disposal area at the Johnston Landfill during normal operating hours and pour their waste oil into one of two 55-gallon collection drums stationed at the facility.
The oil is then collected by Newport Biodiesel, a Rhode Island company that converts the oil into a clean-burning, sustainable fuel used throughout the region.
Cooking oil should never be poured down the drain and can only be disposed with the trash when sealed in a watertight container. Therefore, recycle that cooking oil in the best way possible this holiday season with a visit to the Central Landfill!
Residents can drop off their cooking oil waste during normal operating hours; Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and on Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to noon. RIRRC is closed on Thanksgiving Day. For more information, call 401-942-1430 ext. 775.
