Make Oct. 21-27, 2012, Friends Of Libraries Week In EG

The East Greenwich Free Libray has been a cornerstone of our community for over 100 years.

The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that focuses its efforts on raising money and awareness to ensure that the library has adequate resources for everyone. By donating their time and energy, they have made the library a place of learning, gathering and entertainment.

Please join The Friends in their petition to the Town Council and Chamber of Commerce to join with libraries nationally and officially declare October 21-27 as Friends of Libraries Week.

Contact Town Council President Michael Isaacs (mbisaacs@cox.net) or EG Chamber of Co mmerce director Steve Lombardi (steve@eastgreenwichchamber.com) to let them know you support this proclamation:

Whereas, Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library provides additional resources for programming, much needed equipment, children’s educational activities, and special events throughout the year;

Whereas, the work of the Friends highlights the fact that The East Greenwich Free Library is the cornerstone of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present;

Whereas, the Friends understand the critical importance of well-funded libraries and advocates to ensure that the East Greenwich Free Library gets the resources it needs to provide a wide variety of services to all ages;

Whereas, the Friends’ gift of their time and commitment to the library sets an example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce (Town Council) proclaims October 21-27, 2012, as Friends of Libraries week in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and urges everyone to join this celebration.
