National Friends of Libraries Week

The East Greenwich Free Library celebrates its Friends!

The entire week of October 21-27, 2012, will be devoted to the Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library group as part of the sixth-annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week. The Friends were re-established in 2011 and are now 83 community members strong, many of whom actively volunteer in the Friends’ various programming efforts, including the popular used-book sale held every spring, and Winter’s Eve, the spectacular juried art show that takes place in December. Please check the  library’s calendar for the dates for these and all of the Friends’ events and programs.

“The library has always played such an important role in my life and in my family’s life,” says Friends president Paulette Miller. “I truly enjoy being able to give something back – and being an active member of this group is fun!”

Other officers of the organization are Lilly Wolfgang, Nancy Roman, Gloria Silva, Lisa Sussman, Vern Robinson, and Gloria DePaola.

The highlight of the Celebration Week includes a wine and dessert reception on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. During the week, volunteers will be staffing a membership table and answering questions about the Friends organization.

“National Friends of Libraries week is the perfect time to publicly thank the Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library, who contribute so much of their time and energy to significantly enhance our library services,” said Library Director Karen Taylor. “The support of the friends group is definitely the icing on the cake; bringing added programming and cultural experiences to library patrons.”
