'12 Boston Marathon: Trial By ... Heat

Even for experienced East Greenwich runner Krista Jarrell, Monday's legendary race was "very hard."

How tough was Monday's Boston Marathon? So tough that 4,290 registrants didn't even show up. Of course, that still left 22,426 people who at least started the race.

Of those, according to the Boston Athletic Association, there were 10 from East Greenwich who finished all 26.2 miles. It wasn't easy, said one participant.

"My goal was to finish the race and not time my self. It was one of the hardest marathons I ever ran," said EG's Krista Jarrell. "When I felt my legs cramp I just slowed down so that I could finish the race. Every two miles was a water stop. I would take on cup to drink and pour two one my head. I was glad to finish the race."
