Storms can mess people up. Birds too, it seems. Bob Plain (former editor of this site, now the editor of R.I. Future), who frequently takes pictures of life on and around Greenwich Cove, came upon a heron Saturday morning who was a little out of its element. He wrote: 

"I haven’t seen a blue heron since the fall, but evidently this youngster got snowed out of his winter hiding spot. He was hanging out by this old granite arch railroad bridge, built around the 1840s, to cross over the Maskerchugg River."

Plain took several photos Saturday morning as the blizzard of 2013 was making its way out of town. It's not the first time. He has a whole catalog of photos you can look up on Twitter by searching #egriviera. Plain considers Greenwich Cove one of the most beautiful spots in Rhode Island (a state crammed to overflowing with beautiful spots!).
