A Romp Through Boesch Farm

The trees have not leafed, the underbrush is not up, and no ticks - it's a great time to wander around the trails through the woods at the East Greenwich Land Trust's showcase.

It's easy to reach and it doesn't take hours to cover: Boesch Farm is the perfect place to get away for an hour or so either with or without the kids.

The farm's entrance is on the left about a mile up from Old Quaker Ln. (Rt. 2) and through a wall into a newly graded parking lot. There is a map for surveying all possible routes around the farm and a few small trail markers guide you through a couple of fields to the Trail Head behind the weathered barn.

From there, it is a matter of following the beaten path through the woods, along the brook, past the fields, and back to the farm. In the distance is the hum of traffic on Rt. 4, the occasional train whistle, and a growl from a passing jet, but otherwise, all is calm, except for the chipmunks who scurry back to their lairs in the fieldstone walls that criss cross through the woods.

A nice place to clear the head and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of nature.
