Churches Celebrate Christmas With Services Friday, Saturday

For churches, services this time of year are often their busiest. Here's the low down on local services.

 

On Christmas Eve, when the stores finally begin to empty, the churches around town start to fill as believers and tradition seekers alike attend Christmas services.  Listed below are several churches with the times of their Christmas services or contact information.

Christ Church, corner of Post Road and Cedar Avenue, East Greenwich; 884-8632. Christmas Eve services: Family service ending with Living Nativity at 4pm; service with choir ending with Living Nativity at both 5:30 and 7pm; Lessons & Carols at 9pm. Christ Church recommends warm shoes and jackets for those services ending with Living Nativity. No services Christmas Day.

First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 124 Division Street, East Greenwich; 884-5572. Christmas Eve services at 5 and 10:30pm. No services Christmas Day.

Frenchtown Baptist Church, 1359 Frenchtown Road, East Greenwich; 884-2546. Christmas Eve service at 7pm. No services on Christmas Day.

Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Third Street, East Greenwich; 884-4968. Christmas Eve masses will be held at 5pm and midnight with music starting a half hour before at 4:30 and 11:30. Christmas Day masses will be held at 7:30, 9 and 10:30am.

St. Gregory the Great, 360 Cowesett Avenue, Warwick; 884-1666. Christmas Eve masses: Two at 4pm – one in the church with the youth ensemble and one in the church hall with the children's choir; 11pm, with the adult choir singing carols at 10:30.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Peirce Street at Church Street, East Greenwich; 884-4116. Christmas Eve services: family service with youth procession and Holy Eucharist at 4pm (nursery will be open); Holy Eucharist, homily and hymns at 7pm; procession & festal Eucharist at 10:30pm. Christmas Day: Holy Eucharist, homily and hymns at 10am.

United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich; 884-4221. Christmas Eve services: Christmas pageant at 4pm; family service ending in candlelight at 7pm; communion at 11pm. No services on Christmas Day.

At St. Greg's, the adult choir sings carols on Christmas Eve starting at 10:30 p.m. for the 11 p.m. mass. There are also two masses on Christmas Day at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Merry Christmas!
