Festival is Annual Homecoming for Rhode Island Musicians

Brahms at St. Greg’s, “High School Musical” at EGHS, Holistic Health Fair downtown and more.

 

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets for how to spend your free time. Check out our picks for the local activities to hit and places to explore.

 1. MUSIC ON THE HILL

After a successful opening concert at St. Luke’s in April, the Music on the Hill Festival officially gets under way over the next two weeks. This marks the fourth year for the world-class event that features chamber music concerts from Rhode Island natives.

There are two concerts this weekend, with the closest to us being “Meditations & Brahms” at St. Greg’s on Friday. If you think a little food and wine would go well with your chamber music, then the “Here’s a Story” Culinary Concert on Saturday in Providence is for you.

There will be a meet and greet with the musicians following each concert. For the entire concert schedule and to order tickets, go to www.musiconthehillri.com.

Where/When: St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick, RI; Friday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The festival promises to inspire music lovers with programs full of exciting live performances featuring accomplished home-grown and resident musicians.

Pricing:  $15 in advance; $20 at the door

2. OLM STUDENTS PRESENT “HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL JR.”

Where/When: East Greenwich High School; Saturday, 7 p.m., and Sunday, 4 p.m.

Why Go: School may be out for the year soon, but 60 OLM students are eager to show you why, “We’re all in this together” this weekend.

Pricing: $10

3. HOLISTIC HEALTH FAIR

Where/When: Back to Basics Natural Foods; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Good health is always in style, and this event will enable the public to experience the wellness offered by over a dozen businesses that make up our local holistic health community.

Pricing: Free

4. BALLROOM DANCE FUNDRAISER

Where/When: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church; Friday, 5 to 8 p.m.

Why Go: The RI Chapter of USA Dance brings a ballroom Dance Party to EG with music and dance performances by the group, plus a 30-minute complimentary dance lesson, and refreshments “to boot.

Pricing: Adults $10; Children $5

5. “GROWING UP AT CLOUDS HILL” EXHIBIT

Where/When: Clouds Hill Victorian House Museum; Please call 401-884-9490 to schedule a tour appointment

Why Go: See displays of everyday items, such as the photos, school books, diaries, scrapbooks, toys, games, clothing and sporting equipment, from the historic home’s past child residents from the last quarter of the 19th century.

Pricing: Adults $15; Children 12 and under $5
