Five Things: Town Council, Rain & More
A handy guide for life in East Greenwich today, May 14.
Town Council meeting: Yes, they have been meeting a lot lately — but this is a regular meeting as opposed to a budget workshop. In addition to the 2013 budget, a liquor license transfer for 20 Water Street is on the agenda — the restaurant is being bought by Chelo’s. Also, the Council will revisit the taxation ordinance for senior and veteran exemptions. The meeting is held in Council Chambers at Town Hall at 7 p.m.
FTM Voter Registration deadline: Today’s the deadline for registering to vote to be able to vote at the East Greenwich Financial Town Meeting (which takes place June 12). This applies only to those people who are unregistered to vote but would like to participate in the FTM. You may register at the Town Clerk’s office or online at the R.I. Secretary of State’s website.
Booster Club Scholarships: The EGHS Booster Club is awarding four $1,000 scholarships this school year, two to senior boy athletes and two to senior girl athletes. If you or someone you know may qualify for this scholarship, applications will be accepted until Wednesday, May 15. Don’t be shy!
Coming on Wednesday: Everything You Want to Know About Teens, Part 4 – Prescription Drugs, the fourth in a series of presentations meant to help parents talk to their teenage children. This installment focuses on the prevalance of prescription drugs in society today and the dangers they can pose to young people. Guest speakers include a representative from The Blessing Way, Fred Procopio M.D., and Scott Scheer from Assisted Recovery.
Weather: Rain is on the docket for the next few days ... the price to pay, perhaps, for the past weekend's spectacular weather.
