Five Things: Fire District, Safety Town

EG Fire District meeting: The meeting cancelled last week due to a lack of a quorum will be held Thursday. With legislation before Gov. Chafee that would abolish the EGFD and establish a town fire department, this could be the panel’s final meeting. At 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Bullying, What Parents Need to Know: Sargeant Rehab Center is holding a workshop on bullying that will provide an overview of the Rhode Island Safe Schools Act, including information about cyberbullying. Please RSVP to Parent Support Network of R.I. (467-6855). From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Free (no childcare will be available).

Safety Town 2013 Registration: Open for all kindergarten students. This 4 day program will be held at Hanaford School June 25 - 28, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $60 per child, which includes 4 half-day sessions, snacks, t-shirt and all supplies. Topics include all areas of safety geared toward kindergarten age students including: bicycle, pet, water, helmet, personal, poison, drug and bus safety plus more. EG Fire, Rescue and Police units will provide information sessions, demonstrations and vehicle tours. Participants also get a first-time ride on an EG school bus. Goddard Park Farmers Market:  From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. off Ives Road (there will be a large sign).

Opening reception at Heritage Gallery: A collaboration of three very local artists – Marjorie Ball, Alice Gebhart (owner of Heritage), and Paulette Miller – is showcased in an exhibit of Rhode Island artists. More than 65 artists in total. The show is filled with a variety of styles and medium. From 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Gallery on Post Road.
