Five Things: Joint Council, Fire District Meeting

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Oct. 3.

Walk to School Day: Today is International Walk to School Day. By the time you read this, your child is probably already at school – sorry we didn’t give you a head’s up earlier! How about walking home from school today?

Town Council/Fire District meeting: The two boards will discuss shared services and the format for the public forum Oct. 15 on the referendum question about merging the EG Fire District with the Town of East Greenwich, creating a municipal fire department. The meeting takes place at Swift Community Center and starts at 7 p.m. The agenda is attached, right.

Planning Board: On the agenda, the Stork’s Nest application for a new facility at 3116 South County Trail is continued for the second month in a row – this time to Nov. 7. The other significant item on the agenda is a pre-application hearing for a 5-lot minor residential subdivision at Division and Shippeetown roads. The agenda is attached, right.

Avenger home games: Boys Soccer plays Lincoln, JV at 3:15 and Varsity at 4:45 p.m.; Unified Volleyball plays Chariho at 3:30 p.m. For the latest information about EGHS sports, check out the Avengers Booster Club website.

Voter Registration deadline looms: You have until Sunday, Oct. 7 to register for the Nov. 6 general election. Whether you are interested in who will be our next U.S. president or if you want to make sure you get to weigh in on our next School Committee, now’s the time to register if you haven’t done so already.

and a couple more ...

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.

Post your Events and Announcements on EG Patch: If you have something you’d like to see on the EG Patch calendar, upload it by clicking here and finding the “Add an Event” tab on the right. The Events Calendar is my go-to spot for the daily Five Things column. If you want to be featured in Five Things, make sure you post your items on the calendar! If you have something you’d like to post as an Announcement, you can do that by clicking here. I routinely post Announcements to the EG Patch home page.

About this column: News and information to help you plan your day. Related Topics: Fire District, Joint Meeting, Planning Board, and Town Council

Have to give a shoutout to the daily "Five Things" list you post. I check it everyday and last Saturday we went to the Frenchtown School fair - we had a great time even in the misty rain. I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for EG Patch. Thanks for the link to the EG Avengers Booster website - the day by day sports scehdule makes it simple for me to see when the outdoor track facility is free.

Fascinating, but half the town is talking about the school sponsored bullying of the freshman class at the Pep Rally on Friday. Not on a word on this site, even though someone's bio says schools are one of the two issues in East Greenwich that matter most. We did get stories on Winter Fire Safety Tips and the Hound Hike, however. Is the Patch that clueless or just "selective" about what it prints?

I guess I'll own up to being clueless. This is the first I've heard of it. Guess I've got some work to do. Thanks for cluing me in.
