Five Things: Liquor License Request, Drumming Circle
Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Feb 25.
Town Council meeting: The Council will hear an application by Silver Spoon Bakery for a liquor license, but will first need to increase the number of liquor licenses allowed. In addition, they will consider a new victualling license for children’s consignment clothing store Lina Piccolina as well as discussing the EG Fire District merger. Also on the agenda is appointment of a Tree Warden for 2013 – not insignificant in the wake of the damage inflicted on many street trees in town in the wake of the Blizzard of 2013 earlier this month and Superstorm Sandy last fall.
Community Meal: Christ Community Kitchen holds its monthly meal tonight in the St. Luke’s Church dining room. All are welcome, regardless of faith. The meal is free but donations are accepted. 5 p.m.
Drumming Circle: Following the community meal at CCK (see above), there will be a drumming circle in the auditorium at St. Luke’s Church. All are welcome. 6:30 p.m.
Water Street closed: Water Street at the Barbara Tuft's Playground (Lion Street) will be closed 24 hours a day for approximately 4 more weeks. No traffic will be able to pass because of the vertical trench sheeting that will be in the road. This construction is to replace the 90-year-old sewer main from the bottom of King Street to the Waste Water Treatment Facility. If you have any questions, contact the Department of Public Works at 886-8618.
Pickup hockey: URI’s Boss Ice Arena offers a public hockey program available to men and women 14 years of age and older. If you're looking for a fun pickup game or if you're looking to challenge yourself against other competition, the Boss Arena is the place to be. All participants are required to wear full equipment. It takes place Wednesday and Friday too. From noon to 2 p.m., $6 per person.
Catching up: After a week away from the website, I’m back and playing email and story catchup. Feel free to email me again if you tried me last week and I haven’t responded.

Hi NATIVE1950, my name is Kelly and I'm the owner of Silver Spoon. As an establishment that sells dessert and after dinner goodies, we've gotten requests to offer wine and cordials. We won't be selling anything like shots, beer, or even stock hard alcohol like vodka, gin, whiskey, etc. We also plan on having limited hours, with alcohol offered after 5 p.m. and we'll close at 11 p.m. on weekends and 10 p.m. on weeknights. We currently have a full-time role, and two part-time roles. With the liquor license, we'd be able to add another full-time position and another part-time position. We value our patrons and want to offer a complete fine dessert experience, while also keeping in mind the needs and our responsibilities to the community. Thank you, Kelly
