Five Things: Planning Board, Navy Band Shoutout

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Sept. 5.

Trash pickup delayed one day this week: Because of the Labor Day holiday, trash pickup for the whole week is delayed one day. So, if you usually have trash pickup on Wednesdays, this week it will be Thursday. Friday pickups will happen on Saturday.

Planning Board meeting: On the agenda is the East Greenwich portion of Frenchtown Commons, a development off Frenchtown between Post Road and the Route 4 overpass, just west of the former Browne and Sharpe facility. Most of the land for the development lies in North Kingstown, but proposed for the property in East Greenwich is a theater complex and a restaurant. On the NK side, a big box store is proposed along with several retail buildings. This is the second time the Planning Board will weigh in on the plan, which originally had the big box store on the EG side. (The agenda is attached.)

Family music class: Fun, playful & interactive music and movement. Open to all infants, toddlers and preschoolers (older siblings welcome too) with their families/caregivers, but this is designed to be an introduction to the Music Together program for families who have never attended a semester of MT classes before. Barbi Beyer, director of Sing with B Music, in North Kingstown will facilitate the program. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This may already be full, so call the library first: 884-9510, ext. 27.

Say "thanks!" to Navy Band: We all loved the fireworks at Summer's End Friday night, but they came so fast on the heels of the Navy Pops Ensemble’s final piece that the band never quite got the shout out it deserved for its great performance. If you’d like to thank the Navy Band for their outstanding performance, you can send a letter to the Director, Navy Band Northeast, 347 Easton Street, Newport, R.I. 02841, or send an email to scott.mythen@usnwc.edu.

“Movie Under the Stars” outdoor movie this Saturday: The Town of East Greenwich, with support from the Main Street Association (MSA) of East Greenwich, and the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, are pleased to announce that the third annual “Movie Under the Stars” outdoor movie event this Friday at 7 p.m. (rain date of Sunday, Sept. 9), at Academy Field. This year’s movie title is “Jumanji,” starring Robin Williams, rated PG. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available on-site for purchase.

Trust the flyer, not the editor! Thanks for the catch.
