Five Things: Swearing In Ceremony
Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Nov. 26.
Newly elected officials sworn in tonight: Town and school officials elected on Nov. 6 will be sworn in tonight at a ceremony at Swift Community Center at 7 p.m. The Town Council will then convene briefly to elect a president. Michael Isaacs has been president for the last three terms; he won re-election again with the largest vote margin. Other members of the Town Council to be sworn in tonight are Brad Bishop, Jeff Cianciolo, Michael Kiernan, and Mark Gee. Two new members will be sworn into the School Committee tonight, along with current Committee Chair Deidre Gifford, who won re-election on Nov. 6. The new members are Carolyn Mark and Clark Smith. The School Committee will not convene tonight. All are invited to attend the ceremony. Departing members are commended for their service and refreshments are served. At 7 p.m.
Rec signups for Dec. break start today: EG Parks and Rec will be offering three days of trips and activities for area children, in grades 1-6, during the December Vacation week. Children may either sign up for a whole day of activities or simply a trip or a project. Registration begins today by mail. Walk-in registrations will not be accepted until Nov. 28. Camper-ships and reduced fees are available for those on public assistance. Flyers and registration forms were passed out at the local elementary schools and are available at the office, the Town Hall, the East Greenwich Free Library, or on the web at www.eastgreenwichri.com. The department will continue to offer a full day program for the youths needing all day care. The office will be open at 8:30 am and close at 5:00 p.m. The children will participate in the scheduled trips and activities. No alternative activities are planned, so sign up now to secure a spot. There is an extra fee for all day care. For more information, click here.
Open Jam Night: The Greenwich Hotel’s Open Jam session takes place every Monday night. All musicians are welcome and even non-musicians with rhythm can join in on the percussion instruments. This is Open Mic with a twist. It is a more relaxed format. You are encouraged to jump in and start playing. This makes for an interesting and unique night of music. A full PA set up with mics, cords, bass amp, electronic drum kit, bongos, djembe and other percussion instruments are available.
EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.
Post your Events and Announcements on EG Patch: If you have something you’d like to see on the EG Patch calendar, upload it by clicking here and finding the “Add an Event” tab on the right. The Events Calendar is my go-to spot for the daily Five Things column. If you want to be featured in Five Things, make sure you post your items on the calendar! If you have something you’d like to post as an Announcement, you can do that by clicking here. I routinely post Announcements to the EG Patch home page.
