Girls Soccer Beats Warwick Vets 3-0

Despite the win, many scoring opportunities are missed.

Sometimes winning isn't enough. On Thursday afternoon, the EGHS girls soccer team dominated the game against Warwick Vets and won the game by a score of 3-0, but according to team members and the coach, EG's score should have been higher.

"We're having trouble finishing. We had the ball on their half of the field more than three-quarters of the game. We had numerous chances," said senior co-captain Megan Greineder.

"I think we're playing well," said Karen Lockhart, also senior and co-captain. "What we need to do now is put the ball in the back of the net. We had so many opportunities today. We just didn't finish."

Lockhart earned an assist early on, when sophomore Marissa Light scored 7 minutes in.

The other two goals didn't come until closer to the end of the game, when first Samantha VanWinter, a sophomore, scored, with an assist by Sarah Beaulieu at 64 minutes, and sophomore Carolyn Cruise scored with an assist from Greineder at 67 minutes in.

Two goalies guarded the net for EG - Alex Place had 4 saves and Kaylee Sullivan had 5.

Coach Scott Douglas expressed some concern over all the missing scoring opportunities.

"We don't have a finisher," he said. "They're just not hungry.... We need to put the ball away."
