Home Track Meet (At Last!) & More

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, April 30.

Town Council/School Committee budget meeting: The two panels meet tonight at Swift Community Center to talk turkey about the budget. The Council has asked the School Committee to cut $400,000 from it’s budget. Expect to hear a defense from the school side when the meeting convenes tonight at 7 p.m.

EGHS Home Track Meet: For the first time in decades (!), East Greenwich High School is hosting a track meet this afternoon, with the Avengers facing teams from Coventry and Westerly at 3:30 p.m. Go (fast!) Avengers! In addition, you can catch Varsity Baseball action versus Cumerland at 3:45 p.m. and JV Softball versus Tiverton at 4 p.m.

Briarbrook Auctions Spring Antiques & Fine Furnishings: There’s A LOT of items on offer today’s auction at the Varnum Memorial Armory on Main Street, including a Shaker chair, a c.1954 Leopold Stickley cherry drop leaf table, a Victorian petticoat table, a ball & claw foot piano stool, and Maddock block front secretary. In addition, there are more than 150 Box Lots on auction at 5 p.m. The main auction starts at 6:30 p.m. Preview begins at 11 a.m. For a detailed list of what’s on auction, click here. All are welcome!

Christ Community Kitchen: The last Monday of every month, Christ Community Kitchen hosts dinner at St. Luke’s Church on Peirce Street. It’s free (though donations are welcome) and all are invited to share in the food and fellowship. It starts at 5 p.m.
