Police have released the name of the man who died following a single car accident on Ives Road in the Potowomut section of Warwick late morning Friday. He is Alfred Coletti, 42, of Warwick.

The accident took place just before 11:30 a.m. near 630 Ives Rd., on a stretch of the road between the two entrances to Goddard Park. According to a witness, Coletti’s SUV was traveling south on Ives Road when it drifted into the northbound lane and continued across the roadway, crashing into a tree.

According to Warwick police, Coletti was the sole occupant of the vehicle; he had to be extricated by the fire department. He was taken to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

Ives Road was closed for about 2½ hours following the crash as police investigators and rescue personnel worked at the scene.

The Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing the investigation to include whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision, Warwick police said.
