Lots Of Meetings & Lacrosse; No Moon
Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, May 3.
Lacrosse x 3 & softball: Arrive at Carcieri Field at 4 and if you can stay for a few hours, you’ll see plenty of lacrosse action today. First up, the EGHS boys junior varsity team plays Mount St. Charles, followed by a varsity match up at 5pm. The Avenger girls take to the field at 7 against LaSalle. Fast pitch softball more your style? You can see that too, when the Lady Avengers play Scituate at 3:45pm.
EG Art Club: It’s monthly meeting time. The art club will gather at its new spot at the First Baptist Church on Peirce Street at 7pm. Massachusetts watercolor painter Lavonne Suwalski Copley will speak.
School Committee meets: It’s getting close to peddle-to-the-metal time for the schools budget. The town charter dictates that the town council vote on a budget for the next fiscal year by May 15 (the new fiscal year begins July 1). With less than two weeks before that deadline, the school committee will hear from Supt. Victor Mercurio his recommendations for possible cuts. The meeting begins at 7pm at Cole Middle School.
Cove Commission meets: Among the items on the agenda for the Tuesday meeting is Harris Marina, the marina at the end of Rocky Hollow Road that has run afoul of CRMC rules. The meeting begins at 7pm at the Town Hall Council conference room.
Moonless: Tonight's a good night for stargazing, if the clouds stay away. The moon will be completely absent from the sky, decreasing the amount of light. Even better for those who live on the west side of South County Trail, where it's always darker at night.
