Market Friday & The Friday Outing
Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, June 17.
Goddard Park Farmers Market: It’s a Friday in June, which means the farmers market at Goddard Park is open from 9am to 1pm. The East Greenwich Farmers Market starts up on Monday, but if you’ve got to pick up some fresh eggs, lettuce greens or a couple of plants before the weekend, head on down Ives Road and look for the farmers market sign (and a mess of cars!) on the left.
Cruise Night at Crestar: It’s time to polish up your jalopy and put-put down to the corner of Greene and Liberty streets. The parking lot at Crestar frames comes alive with classic cars from many eras from 5 to 9pm.
Minors softball: The girls Minor League all stars team is playing North Kingstown today for the championship at EGHS starting at 5:30pm.
Friday outing: Take a stroll through Frenchtown Park, that obscure but beautiful tract of land tucked in behind houses on Frenchtown. The entrance to the park is behind the yellow EG Parks & Rec building at 1127 Frenchtown Road. Past the pond, if you turn right, you can stroll down a wide path all the way to Tillinghast Road. If you turn right, you'll find yourself on a narrower path with the stream on your right. You'll find ruins of an old house there as well as remnants of the town's mill past. Bring a picnic and you can pull up a big rock and sit beside the stream.
Dahlias: If you haven’t yet planted your dahlia tubers, go ahead now. The soil is plenty warm and if you plant them in a sunny spot, they’ll grow quickly.

The soil has been warm enough to plant dahlias for over 2 months now and, while you can plant them in June, it is pretty late in the game.
