Obituary: George J. Beattie, 93

George was a true renaissance man, an artist, and a jack-of-all-trades.

 


George Beattie, 93, former co-owner of Olson & Beattie Jewelers of East Greenwich, passed away October 31, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Jennie (Cicchitelli).

Born in Providence he was a son of the late George P. and Amanda (Mercier) Beattie. He was the loving father of Judith Beattie, Lynn Berman (husband Bill), Steven (Wife Ann) and Russell (wife Paula). He is also survived by his grandchildren Morgan, Derek, Genna, Loren, Alexander, Nathan, Allison, Melissa and Zachary. He was the special uncle to Daniel Scolardi and Dorothy Meyerdierks and the late Gerald Scolardi and was the brother of the late James and Agnes Beattie. 

George was a true renaissance man, an artist, and a jack-of-all-trades. He could build, fashion, or fix just about anything. He built his own house in 1968. He was also a well-known and respected master engraver.

Funeral Monday at 9 a.m. from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston.

Great man. When you saw him he talked with you not to you.An artist with anything you gave him. The plaque on my house was engraved by him and I hope it lasts another 300 years here.

We missed George gracing the front after the East Grrenwich Milk Mart changed hands. He was a wonderful man, with a wonderful wife and family. Goerge, you have truely left your mark.
