Obituary: Jane Grainger Daly, 68
Jane – wife of William Daly, mother of 3, and grandmother of 9 – was an avid gardener and boater.
Jane Grainger Daly, 68, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, after a brief illness, surrounded by her wonderful family. Jane was a graduate of Bay View Academy and Boston College School of Nursing. Early in her family life she worked as a visiting nurse for Hartford, Conn., VNA. Later she volunteered her time for blood pressure screenings and blood drives. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the school library for her three children. Jane was an excellent gardener and her prolific tomato plants were well known and enjoyed by all. She loved boating and spent many wonderful weekends with family and friends at Elbow Beach in Charlestown.
Born in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Dr. Henry B. Grainger and Anne C. (Ramey) Grainger. Jane is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bill, her three children, Maryanne Daly Doran and her husband John of Simsbury, Conn., Keelin Petrone and her husband Joseph of East Greenwich, and Brendan Daly and his wife Kristen of Simsbury, Conn., her brother John Grainger of Keene, NH, sister Cathy Craig of Charlestown, R.I., brother James Grainger of Charlestown, R.I., brother Matthew Grainger of Douglas, Mass., nine grandchildren – Michael, Christina, Kevin, Anthony, Kerry, Katie, Kylie, Makayla and Nathan – and several special nieces and nephews – Kate, Christopher, Dana, John, Caitlin and Bonnie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers donations for Jane can be sent to the East Greenwich Free Library, the R.I. Coalition for the Homeless or the East Greenwich Affordable Housing Commission.
