With great pomp and solemnity, hundreds of police and fire fighters honored Coventry Police Det. Wayne French at noon Friday for his funeral at Christ Church on Post Road in East Greenwich.

French, 55, died Dec. 30 after he fell from a tree in his yard while pruning it. He served on the Coventry Police for 21 years.

The long funeral procession came down Division Street to First Avenue, turning right on Main Street. Bagpipers, police officers, state troopers and fire fighters mustered at American Legion Post 15 across from Christ Church for a procession across the street.

The bagpipers were members of the Providence Police Pipes and Drums and the R.I. Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums.

Traffic on Post Road was diverted during the procession and proceeded slowly on Post Road at Cedar before the funeral procession arrived.
