Police Log: Unmowed Lawns, Unpalatable Chicken

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Monday, May 13

9:11 a.m. – Police arrested Christopher P. Reddy, 31, of Ledge Street in Providence, on a warrant after he was pulled over for speeding on Division Street. Routine checks turned up the active warrant. He was processed at the station and taken to 6th District Court in Providence.

3:45 p.m. – A Spring Street resident complained to police about the owner of the apartment house next door because he was not mowing the lawn in a timely manner. After making a complaint to the town, she received a letter from the property owner that said she should have contacted him before going to the town. The letter continued, “I can be a great neighbor and friend or i (sic) can be a nightmare.” The resident said she wanted the incident documented.

5:20 p.m. – An employee of a store at 1000 Division Street told police her father had contacted her for the first time in 20 years, when he had been charged with domestic abuse against her mother. She said she was scared by the contact. Because no crime had been committed, police could only advise the woman to contact them in the event something further occured. They also contacted Johnston police, since the man lives in Johnston.

10:17 a.m. – Police arrested Adan Roberto Mattzer, 28, of Chapin Avenue in Providence, for driving without a license after police saw him fail to stop at a stop sign on Kenyon Avenue at Division Street. The man told police he did not have a driver’s license, having moved to the U.S. from Guatemala. Mattzer was driving a landscaping truck. The owner of the landscaping business came to drive the truck away. Mattzer was issued a court summons and told to report to the police station before the court date for processing.

2:55 p.m. – An employee of Metro PCS told police someone someone had broken into the business and stolen two copper ground bars valued at $1,200.

5:33 p.m. – Police arrested Joseph L. Belle, 57, of Owen Street in Providence, on a Superior Court bench warrant after he and another man were noticed in front of the Greenwich Club and one of them urinated there. Routine checks turned up the warrant on Belle so he was taken into custody, processed at the station and transferred to the ACI.

8:21 p.m. – A Jefferson Drive resident reported a downed mailbox. He said he’d heard a loud noise the night before but didn’t check it out since he didn’t hear anything else. In the morning, however, he found his mailbox lying on his front lawn.

9:02 p.m. – A resident of Long Street told police his girlfriend became upset because the chicken he prepared for dinner wasn’t to her liking. The girlfriend said her boyfriend was drunk and she didn’t want him to stay. The boyfriend’s brother arrived and took him away for the evening.
