Open up your medicine cabinet and have a good look. Are you actually using all the medicines you have in there? If you’re like most people, chances are you have a few containers of prescription medicines you no longer need. Saturday is the perfect time to bring those pills and other medicines to the East Greenwich Police Department.
It is Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. all over the country, including EG, police departments will be accepting old, unwanted prescriptions. In an era of increasing prescription drug use, this is one way to keep some of those medicines from getting into the wrong hands.
“This tells us to get rid of old prescription drugs,” said EG’s drug counselor Bob Houghtaling. “Don’t have them hanging around where they could be abused or taken by kids. While meds can be beneficial when used appropriately, they aren’t when they are just lying around.”
“This is a direct way to dispose of them without worrying about where they’re going or keeping them in the house,” said Police Chief Tom Coyle.
All medications will be acceptable. NO needles, please.
