Presidents, Preservation & More

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, Feb. 20.

Presidents Day: Government offices, banks, and schools are closed today. Some other businesses may also be closed — if you are not sure, give them a call first before heading out. Trash delivery in East Greenwich will NOT be delayed a day, however.

EG Historic Preservation Society meeting: At the monthly meeting of the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society on Monday, February 20, Kelly Sullivan will present Murders Most Foul, the story of four muders in two related Hope Valley families in the 1920s. Kelly is a local writer and storyteller; this story of the Crandalls and the Kenyons is the subject of her new book, "Because I Love You." The meeting, at 110 King Street, begins with a potluck supper at 6:30; the presentation begins at 7:30. The meeting is free and open to the public. Please call Sue Curado at 884-4643 for a reservation.

Growing Your Business workshop: The Coventry Economic Development Commission is hosting a series of free seminars and workshops designed to help businesses increase their market share and help those wishing to start a new business to increase their probability of success. All are welcome. The first one takes place this evening: Four Steps to Explosive Business Growth in Difficult Economic Times, at Coventry Town Council Chambers, 1670 Flat River Road, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Presented by David Nash, President of Engage Marketing, Inc.

Winter Lite: I’m beginning to LOVE our not-so-cold winter. Okay, so I probably won’t get a chance to use the cross country skis at Goddard Park this winter. That I can run, walk, even ride my bike on these almost-warm winter days is pretty wonderful! We’ve got another one of them today, with high temperatures in the mid-40-degree range. Every day that it’s not freezing cold is a day that it’s not freezing cold.

Being grateful: Families in North Kingstown are in mourning today after a crash early Sunday morning on Shippeetown Road killed two NK residents and injured two others. Let’s keep that in mind today as we go about our business.

Five Things has been amended: it seems EG Patch got some bad information about trash delivery — it is taking place as usual this week. Sorry!

I am unclear if the trash is going to be picked up or not on monday, your first msg said it was not going to be delayed, your second said "it is taking place as usual" both msgs indicate "as usual" could you just say if it is going to be picked up on Monday or not.

Trash pick up is NOT DELAYED this week. "Five Things" had noted otherwise first thing this morning. It has since been corrected.

Looks like I was not the only one who figured there would be no pick-up today. The garbage truck flew down my road this morning. Easy day for them today, but next Monday there will be double the trash for them.
