The Circus! A Play! & More [VIDEO]

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, Feb. 3.

Circus Smirkus: The circus came to town this week in a big way, “capturing” two dozen young youngsters and training them to put on their own show. The program, sponsored by the Cultural Organization for the Arts, brought a member of Circus Smirkus to town to teach kids about the circus. Children from Hanaford, Eldredge and Cole gathered after school every day this week. For a glimpse of their mid-week progress, check out the video attached. But to see what a whole week of circus life can do, come to their performance tonight at 7 at the Varnum Armory on Main Street! It’s $5 per person, $10 per family.

Once Upon A Mattress: The East Greenwich High School Drama Club’s production of “Once Upon A Mattress” opens tonight at 7. Tickets, at $10 piece, will be sold at the door.

Teen Center: The teen center is just what it sounds like — a safe place for teenagers to escape their parents! Bob Houghtaling and a few friends staff the event, held in the gymnasium at Eldredge School. From 6 to 8 p.m.

EG Sports: The EGHS Boys Basketball team takes on North Smithfield tonight at 7 p.m. at home. The JV team plays at 5:15 p.m.

Super Bowl countdown: How are you celebrating the Super Bowl? Whether you own a local business or are hosting a gathering at your house, please let us know by leaving a comment here or sending an email to elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com.

And one more thing: I'll be at The Village Cafe this morning from 9 to 11. Come by and say hello!
