The One Day It’s Okay to Spray ... Paint

Legal graffiti downtown, big-name bands at the Crowne Plaza, and more

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Luckily, Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets for how to spend your free time. Check out our picks for the local activities to hit and places to explore.

1. GREAT GRAFFITI CONTEST

London Street Passage, also know as “The Luge,” is the site for the East Greenwich Housing Authority’s annual "Great Graffiti Contest" on Saturday. The sponsors provide the spray paint and supplies, with children under age 10 creating their masterpieces with chalk and finger paints, and the artists are free to have at it.

Cash prizes are given in three age groups (10 and under, 11-16, and 17+), and the judging starts at 1:30 p.m. For those with artistic talent beyond painting, there will be a lip sync/choreography contest with a prize-winner chosen, as well.

Tunes will be played throughout the day by DJ Randy, and snacks will be provided to all who attend.

Pre-registration for the graffiti contest is not required, but strongly recommended. There’s still time to contact Tracy at 885-2610, ext. 13 or tjohnson@eghousing.com.
