The EG Baseball 9-year-olds summer tournament team came out in force and in uniform Monday night, along with their coaches, to be recognized by the East Greenwich Town Council.

It was the capping event of a winning season.

"We started playing last year, our first year out were 7-0," said head coach Tim Foster. This year, the team played a lot more games, ending with a 16-5 record, even having played AU teams and older teams.

Foster attributed the success to "good team chemistry."

The team had, he said, "good pitching, good hitting, great defense ... and a lot of smiles."

Laura Murphy was also recognized by the Town Council on Monday. Murphy placed third in the 100 meters at the North American Hershey Track and Field Meet in July.
