The EG Town Council Monday night approved the Steve Marra Foundation 5K Road Race to be held Sunday, Oct. 21. The race will start behind the Grille on Main and finish in front, on Main Street, and will honor Steve Marra, the restaurant's former owner, who died unexpectedly a year ago.
State trooper Mike Ferruccio told the Council that in addition to honoring the memory of Steve Marra, who supported a number of charities during his life, it would also provide seed money for the nonprofit started by Steve's brother and sister in their brother's memory.
"I was a close friend of Steve’s," said Ferruccio. "It's a tribute to him. He was a great guy."
Council president Michael Isaacs praised the plan. "It's nice to see this foundation carry on Steve's activities and legacy," he said.

The course itself will mirror the course laid out for last year's inaugural Turkey Trot on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
That race is also on the calendar for fall, with a race date of Saturday, Nov. 24, this year.
"We had such a successful day last year with more than 1,000 people coming out and raising $8,000 for the EG Interfaith Food Cupboard," race organizer Michelle Clark wrote in an email earlier this week.
She continued: "This year the fully sanctioned and certified 5K race ... will benefit the EG Animal Protection League. This year we will also use chip timing, which for those of you runners will make for a much more efficient race."
