The East Greenwich High School Unified Volleyball team flew to Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday to participate in the USA Volleyball championships. For any team, especially one in only its second year of existence, this is a big deal.
For a team made up of half teens with special needs and half "partners," it's a trip of a lifetime.
They've been practicing for two months – their regular season ended in November – and now they are off.
Coach Patty Carrosoto said they are indebted to Special Olympics Rhode Island, East Greenwich Rotary, and last weekend's "Belly to Belly" charity run.
"The main objective is to have fun and enjoy ourselves and meet teams for other states," she said.
Go Avengers!
Check back with EG Patch next week to hear all about the trip.
