Drinking At School & Scrap Metal Thefts

Information about the following incidents was supplied by the East Greenwich Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.


Monday, Feb. 13

8:18 a.m. — The owner of Willie’s Shell on Post Road reported the theft of scrap metal from the back of the station where it was stored. Included in the missing metals were three vehicle rear ends and two 30-gallon barrels filled with miscellaneous car parts. There was a surveillance camera on overnight which showed two men getting out of a purple pickup truck and shortly afterwards they drove off with the rear of the truck filled with scrap metal at 7:40 p.m.

4:38 p.m. — The owner of Crestar on Liberty Street reported the theft of an A-frame business sign that had been place on the corner of Main and Greene streets in the morning. The sign was last seen at around 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

10:18 a.m. — The manager at Dave’s Marketplace reported a customer had passed a fraudulent check in November for $154.74. A search of the name on the check turned up several other cases of fraudulent checks written by the same woman. The Providence address on the check was not accurate, nor was the phone number listed there.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

1:50 p.m. — Police arrested Samuel Tyree, 26, of Jefferson Street, for driving with a suspended license. Tyree was stopped near the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue after police noticed his car didn’t have a front license plate and the driver’s side brake light wasn’t working. Police gave Tyree a lift home; his car was towed from the scene.

Thursday, Feb. 16

Police arrested a 14-year-old student for possessing alcohol while at East Greenwich High School. The student was carrying the clear alcohol around in a Gatorade bottle.

4:38 p.m. — A resident of Romano Court reported stopping possible mail tampering after she saw a silver four-door car with a spoiler driver up to her curbside mailbox. When a young man got out of the car and opened her mailbox, the resident called out to the man, asking him what he was doing. He immediately got back in the car and the car drove off. She did not get the license plate number.

Friday, Feb. 17

1:34 p.m. — Police arrested Paul Kindschy, 52, of Ridgefield Drive, for driving with a suspended license after police noticed his car because it bore expired registration stickers while Kindschy was driving south on Main Street. Police issued a court summons. The car was driven away by an aquaintance.

Police are called to East Greenwich High School after a 17 year old boy allegedly elbows a 16 year old boy in the head. The 17 year old was suspended; parents of the 16 year old had not decided whether or not to press charges.

Sunday, Feb. 19

5:45 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a fire in a large dumpster on Crompton Avenue. The EG Fire Department also responded and put the fire out.
