Two-thirds of EG voters may have said they wanted the East Greenwich Fire District to be eliminated and a municipal fire department established, but until the General Assembly weighs in, the EG Fire District continues and it is looking for people who are interested in serving as fire district commissioners starting July 1.
But if you are interested, don't delay. Today (March 15) is the last day to submit a resume. The EGFD Nominating Committee will begin interviewing candidates on Tuesday.
Following interviews, the committee will endorse two candidates to go before the voters at the EGFD's annual meeting in June. Additional nominations can be taken from the floor at that meeting.
Because it is too late to mail in a resume, interested candidates should drop off resumes at Station One on Main Street.

Want to run? You have until 4 p.m. to decide. Why is it that the call for public nominations appear in Patch the same day nominations close? Am I missing something? The Fire District Bylaws provide for a 30 day period for a nominating committee - who is on this committee, by the way? - to come up with candidates for open seats on the Board. Why does this process get compressed into one day? Wouldn't be that there are two seats up for election, and two incumbents running for election, and letting too many know about the nominating process would, well, cause problems, would it?
