The acclaimed director and producer “loves the story, loves the script,” says EG producter Chad Verdi.
Chad Verdi's film project on the life of Rhode Island boxing great Vinnie Pazienza received a high-octane Hollywood boost a few days ago, when Oscar-winning director and producer Martin Scorsese signed on as an executive producer. "Having Marty join the deal is huge," said Verdi. Verdi was put in touch with Scorsese after a conversation with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who is friends with both men. Whitehouse knew Verdi was making "Paz" and that Verdi's previous movies had brought jobs to the state. "Sheldon knew we were creating jobs in Rhode Island," Verdi said. The company is – perhaps improbably – based on Main Street in East Greenwich, in the former United Methodist Church building. That’s because Verdi is from EG. (He’s behind Searle’s…

The Steely Dan tribute band plays to a sold-out crowd.
For the first time since reopening in January, the Greenwich Odeum hosted a sellout crowd for Hey Nineteen, a spot-on Steely Dan cover band. This sell out was all the more remarkable as this was Hey Nineteen's live debut. Hey Nineteen band members are no strangers to the Rhode Island stage and their fans came out in droves for a memorable performance of Steely Dan hits and deep tracks. Local favorite Steve Caraccia (owner of Main Street Music in EG) played bass and was accompanied by Dale DeJoy on lead vocals and guitar along with Colin Nagle also on vocals and keyboard. Hey Nineteen were a total of 10 band members including 3-piece brass section including two female vocalists, these two vocalists carried the mantel of wearing '60s/'70s…

The SAFO board has narrowed it down to the four selections here.
Now it's our turn. The Summer Arts and Festival Organization (SAFO) – the nonprofit that brings East Greenwich that wonderful Summer's End concert, among other things – is looking for a new logo, so recently it asked people to submit ideas. Those ideas were whittled down to the four presented here. Summer's End is asking us the decide which one it should be. Click here to go to their website to vote. And while you are there, think about giving a donation. This event will only continue if we all support it.

Colour of London, a Nashville-based band, will be performing a free concert there, to be filmed for a video sponsored by Alex and Ani.
If you want to be in a music video – and you are at least 21 – tonight is the night! Colour of London, a Nashville-based band, will be performing a free concert at the Main Street theater while cameras roll for the music video to promote their Alex and Ani-sponsored "Path of Life Tour." Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Alex and Ani is of course the jewelry (and more) company out of Cranston that has a shop on Main Street and a warehouse facility on Liberty Street. Colour of London is a band made up of a duo out of Nashville, Tennessee singer/musician Jimmie Allen (who was an American Idol contestant during the 2011 season) and guitarist Nate Woodall. The nonprofit group is trying to get back on firm financial footing.
Summer's End, East Greenwich's signature summer event for the past 16 years, is at a financial crossroads. One way forward would be to charge admission, something SAFO President Patrick Craft said they are considering, if not very happily. "The cost of the show is more than $80,000. It’s cost prohibitive in terms of how we’re currently structured," said Craft in a recent interview. "Do we put people at the gates and charge? I would hate to see that only because it’s had a longstanding tradition of being a free concert at the end of the summer." Last year, SAFO made one big, cost-saving change – having the U.S. Navy Band perform instead of the Rhode Island Philharmonic. As popular as the R.I. Phil is, it would cost about $25,000 to have …
