About this column:

Each week, East Greenwich Patch will spotlight individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree. Submit your nomination by e-mailing me at: robert.plain@patch.com.
Nikhil Mahadevan Nikhil’s a senior at EGHS. He’s 18. Earlier this year, Nikhil developed an application for the iPhone that would help fellow students keep track of what classes they had on a particular day. That’s because the school unveiled a new schedule this year which rotates on a six-day template. In other words, “A period” is your first period on Monday, your second period on Tuesday, your third period on Wednesday and so on. It can get confusing. So Nikhil decided to solve two problems at once: help students remember their schedule while giving himself a senior project. Every senior …

Caitlin is going to Haiti with her senior project mentor, Boston photographer Barbara Peacock, and others to take pictures and teach art classes. When asked by Peacock to go on the trip, she jumped at the opportunity. “I’m interested in humanitarian work and film and photography,” she said. “This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m interested in film too. I’m hopefully doing a documentary there too.” As for her parents, they are nervous, she said, but they understand how important the trip …

This year, Team Golden, as it has become known, numbered in the dozens and was comprised of family members and school and family friends. Eddye has raised $14,000 for MS since that first walk her freshman year.

Lee raised more than $430 for Pennies for Patients at her birthday party.
