On Monday, February 18 the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society will hear how Scott Cadew's interest in genealogy led to his discovery that his wife is a descendent of the captain of the Mayflower. Cadew is a retired electrical engineer who, with his wife Valerie, spends part of every year at their home in Wakefield.
Scott began researching Valerie's family history and found that some of her relatives had lived in East Greenwich around 1760. Using search engines like Ancestry.com he discovered that his wife is a descendent of Christopher Jones, captain of the Mayflower.
Cadew will share his genealogy search techniques so that others can trace their family roots. The event will be held at the Old Jail, 110 King Street, East Greenwich. It begins with a potluck supper at 6:30 and the program begins at 7:30. It is free and open to the public. For reservations call Sue Curado at 884-4643 or e-mail her at lencu@cox.net.
Copies of the Society's latest book, "Historic Postcards of East Greenwich" will be for sale at $25.00 each.
