RI Library Legislative Awareness Day
On Feb. 6, the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA) will celebrate the annual RI Library Legislative Awareness Day in the State House Rotunda from 2 to 4 pm. The event works to exhibit library-related organizations and show legislators the benefits they have on communities. RILA also requests the attendance of all RI residents to let their leaders know how integral library resources are, and plans to showcase the virtual presence of those unable to attend in person.
RILA encourages those wishing to virtually connect to call 401-203-READ (7323) before or during event hours. With each caller’s permission, his or her name and message will be written on a poster at the event. RILA also encourages those unable to attend to write comments to be shared at the event via Facebook at facebook.com/rilibraries and Twitter at @rilalibs.
Organizations expected to attend this year include the Coalition of Library Advocates (COLA), the HELIN consortium, Ocean State Libraries (OSL), RILINK, the University of Rhode Island's Harrington School of Communication and Media/Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS), the School Librarians of Rhode Island (SLRI), the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries (CRIARL), the Association of Rhode Island Health Sciences Libraries (ARIHSL), the Special Library Association, RI Chapter (SLA/RI), the Office Of Library and Information Services (OLIS) and AskRI.
Founded in 1903, the Rhode Island Library Association (RILA) is a professional association of librarians, library staff, trustees, and library supporters. RILA promotes the profession of librarianship and seeks to improve the visibility, accessibility, responsiveness and effectiveness of library and information services throughout the state.
