KEEPING KIDS SAFE

Due to a prior engagement, I was unable to attend tonight's session regarding school bus drivers and the District's efforts to keep our kids safe. This was of particular interest to me, as I have a son in East Greenwich schools and riding on the school bus, and it seems clear that we need to be doing more than we are.

Beginning tomorrow, I will be discussing with Dr. Mercurio and members of the School Committee on actions that can be take at the state level to deal with this issue. No employee screening process is perfect, but at the very least, criminal background checks from both RI and national databases ought to be requirements. And if it is not required by state stature, we will do what we can to ensure it is.

If you, as parents, have other thoughts, please comment here and we will be sure to deal with your concerns. Or e-mail me at anthony@giarrusso30.com  I want to hear your perspectives, and do what we can to improve our oversight of those employed to take care of our children.

I will report back to you on our progress.

Thank you!

Respectfully yours,
Anthony Giarrusso
State Representative H-30
