MATT PHIPPS IS 2013 KWAOR REALTOR® OF THE YEAR

The Kent Washington Association of REALTORS® is proud to announce that it has chosen Matthew M. Phipps as the 2013 KWAOR REALTOR® of the Year.  The REALTOR® of the Year award is the highest recognition given by the association, and selection is based upon the achievements and contributions deemed to represent those qualities all REALTORS® should ascribe to in their civic and professional life.

Matt is a fourth generation REALTOR® at Phipps Realty in Warwick, and he currently serves as a Director for the Kent Washington Association of REALTORS®.  Matt obtained his real estate license in 2001, while still a Journalism major at American University in Washington, D.C..  In the summers between college semesters, he mentored under his grandfather, Rick Phipps, whom he credits for giving him a solid and disciplined grounding in the specifics of running a real estate business.

From the beginning, Matt distinguished himself in the early use of blogging and social media as real estate tools to educate clients and the general public about real estate issues, trends and best practices.  He was also the creator of ‘Real Estate Minute’, a series of 60-second consumer education videos which he co-hosted with his father, Ron Phipps.  The series ran on the ABC6 RI News Channel from 2005-2009.  In 2009 and 2010 he was also the creator and analyst for Fox Providence’s The Rhode Show “House Talk” segment.

Matt co-founded the Kent Washington Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network in 2009 and is also co-founder and Past President of the Young Professionals Network for the Rhode Island Association of REALTORS®.   He has served as a technology instructor for the Rhode Island Association of REALTORS®, as well as a panelist in the “Rhode to Recovery” panel discussions and the Young Professionals educational series.  He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the National Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network Advisory Board and is slated to be its Chair in 2014.

Matt was recognized in 2008 as one of REALTOR Magazine’s ‘30 under 30’, for his work and advocacy in the use of technology and social media as tools for servicing clients.  He has actively served the National Association of REALTORS® in various capacities, including work on the NAR Research Committee, Ethics and Diversity Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and on the Communications Committee, which oversees NAR’s public awareness campaign.   In late 2008, as its youngest Chair ever, Matt led the Communications Committee at a time when national crises in the financial and housing sectors demanded a new way of communicating with the public.

He has been a guest panelist for the 2010 NAR Leadership Summit in Chicago, as well as a panelist on a variety of subjects, including social media, video, and technology for various committees during the year end and mid-year conventions in Orlando, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Anaheim, and Washington, D.C. He continues to make appearances to various REALTOR® association offices throughout the country.

Matt is one of five nominees for 2013 Rhode Island State REALTOR® of the Year.  The winner will be announced at the Rhode Island Association’s of REALTORS® Annual Installation of Officers and Directors on October 24th.
