Our Family for Families First Foundation Changes Its Name to Corvias Foundation

East Greenwich, R.I. (September 10, 2013) – Our Family for Families First, an award-winning private, charitable foundation committed to supporting the pursuit of higher education, announced today that it has been renamed the Corvias Foundation to reflect its affiliation with the Corvias Group family of companies.

Founded in 2006 as the private, charitable foundation of Corvias Group CEO John Picerne, Corvias Foundation provides educational scholarships and grants to military families, college students, and Corvias employees as a means of empowering individuals to reach higher and contribute to their communities.

Since 2006, the Foundation has awarded more than $4.5 million in scholarships to the families of active-duty service members. In fact, in 2012, the Foundation was recognized at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama as a winner of the first Joining Forces Community Challenge, which honored citizens and organizations with a demonstrated, genuine, and deep desire to be of service to military families.

“Over the past seven years, with support from our Foundation, we have seen exceptional students reach higher and contribute to their communities in very meaningful ways,” said Maria A. Montalvo, executive director of the Corvias Foundation.  “But we wanted to do more.  Our new name reflects our desire to expand upon our work with military families and support others who share our vision for improving lives and communities.”

Through significant scholarships and grants, internships, academic support, and access to mentors, the Corvias Foundation helps individuals and families exceed their personal, educational, and professional development goals. The scholarships provide reliable, recurring financial assistance over a student’s four years of study, as well as a support network that is committed to their academic and professional growth.

The Foundation also collaborates with college and university leadership to create strategic philanthropic support for academic-related projects and impactful volunteer experiences on the campuses and in the communities affiliated with Corvias Group.

“I originally started the Foundation as a vehicle to give back to service members and reflect the values of our military housing company and employees,” said John Picerne. “That remains vitally important, but I also recognize the need to evolve our charitable mission in support of our growing family of companies and employee base. With that in mind, the Corvias Foundation will redouble our commitment to improving the communities in which we live and serve through opportunities in education and volunteerism.”

In addition to scholarships and grants, since 2009, the Corvias Foundation has partnered with the Red Sox Foundation to sponsor their annual Run-Walk to Home Base event. The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program serves New England by identifying, motivating and clinically treating wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat stress and traumatic brain injury and their families.

Featuring Corvias Military Living and Corvias Campus Living as its family of companies, Corvias Group is a vertically-integrated real estate solutions group dedicated to building strong communities through partnerships that deliver the highest quality development, construction, and management solutions to a range of clients, including the military and higher education.
