Raimondo Meets EG High School Team at Lifesmarts Competition

General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo recently attended Rhode Island’s annual LifeSmarts “March Smartness” academic competition to commend the competing high school students and emphasize the importance of college savings. Raimondo shared personal stories of savings and spoke about financial literacy with the East Greenwich High School Avengers, who participated in the competition at the State House.  

“I am pleased to see that the students competing in this competition understand the importance of financial literacy and college savings,” said Raimondo. “The LifeSmarts program, with support from the Collegeboundfund, makes learning about ways to make smart financial decisions fun and exciting, and helps give our students the tools they need to become financially successful in the future.”

“March Smartness,” presented by Collegeboundfund, Rhode Island’s 529 college savings plan, is a quiz-show format competition program of the National Consumers League that teaches and rewards teenagers for their consumer and marketplace knowledge. Eight local high schools competed in the event, including Barrington High School, Burrillville High School, Cumberland High School, East Greenwich High School, Mt. Hope High School, North Providence High School, North Smithfield High School, and Tolman High School.

The East Greenwich Avengers team is comprised of students Christopher Luo, Zack Johnson, Wei Li, Charlotte Palmer, Julian Wu, and coach Patricia Page. The team finished second in the competition.
