The Savory Affair Releases Tips for Beating the Heat at Your Summer Wedding
East Greenwich, RI: With the dog days of summer here, The Savory Affair, New England’s premier event planning firm, announced tips for keeping a wedding party and guests comfortable in the hot summer sun.
“An outdoor wedding in the middle of August may be your dream, but you have to consider what effect the heat might have on your celebration,” stated Alexandra Kreher, Event Planner for The Savory Affair. “There are many things you can do to ensure that everyone involved remembers your big day as the coolest wedding ever, despite the heat!”

For the Groom and his groomsman:
Provide them with monogrammed water bottles to keep them refreshed throughout the day.

Equip them with hand-held fans or water-misters to help keep them cool.
If your venue has the option, designate a private, air-conditioned room or area for the groom’s party to go to when they need to cool off during down time before the ceremony.
For the Bride and bridesmaids:
Choose a wedding dress that will allow you to breathe. Avoid dresses that are high necked, made of heavier fabrics such as satin or require accessories that will keep you from cooling down such as shawls.
Consider purchasing matching paper parasols for each of your ladies to hold during the ceremony to block the direct sun.
Give flip flops to the bridesmaids for the reception (there’s nothing worse than sweaty feet in uncomfortable heels!)
For the Guests:
When it’s really hot out, you not only have to consider your guests’ comfort – but their safety as well. Plan for a ‘Relief Station’ and offer your guests a spot where they can cool down and rehydrate! Include cold towels, sunscreen, flip flops and hand-held misters. Set up this station in a shady, but central, location, if possible. If there’s access to electricity, consider providing a fan, too!
Provide mini water bottles at each seat at the ceremony.
Accomplish two things at once and have your ceremony program printed right on fans!
Offer non-alcoholic beverages at your bar! Pair alcohol induced dehydration with the blazing sun and warm temperatures and you could have a recipe for disaster. Putting out water bottles, offering lemonade or other non-alcoholic beverages will help keep your guests hydrated and happy! Maybe even consider offering a creative custom punch to encourage your guests to drink something non-alcoholic.
