2014 Inductees To EGHS Wall Of Honor Named

Written by Bruce Mastracchio.

The East Greenwich High School Wall of Honor has chosen its next class for induction ceremonies next spring at East Greenwich High School. The diverse class includes an award-winning author, a state senator, a history and geneology buff, a longtime East Greenwich fire chief and a well-recognized local businessman.

The names behind the descriptions are: Rye Barcott, Charles Algren, Robert A. Greene, Fred Miller, and Chris Hurd.

The Class of 2014, they will be the seventh class chosen for the hallowed wall and will be inducted next April in a ceremony in the auditorium at East Greenwich High.

Previous inductees have run the gamut of successful individuals, who have graduated (or attended local schools) in E.G. from the little school (starting with the East Greenwich Academy) in one of the smallest towns in the smallest state in the country. The list covers outstanding businessmen, athletes, doctors, researchers, writers, Pulitzer Prize winners, teachers, historians, volunteers and more, whose lives and accomplishments can serve as a model for current students to follow. Photo collages of previous honorees adorn the walls at East Greenwich High.

The Wall of Honor Committee is asking for contact from people running their EGHS Class reunions, to contact them to discuss any of their class members, who might be worthy of induction. The Committee is still interested in candidates from the '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s.

If you have such information, please contact Chairman Bob Houghtaling at 230-2246 or Nominating Chairman Bruce Mastracchio at 885-3160. The voting committee consists of: Janet Joyce, Carl Hoyer, Robert Lallo, Elaine Mastracchio and Bob Houghtaling.
