About 100 People Take Frozen Clam Plunge

It was a bucket-list item for Shawn Kerachsky, who took the Frozen Clam plunge Wednesday at Goddard Park with his son, B.J.

And once was enough, he said.

With the air temperature in the mid-20s and a water temperature in the 40s, perhaps that's understandable. But there were more than 100 people willing to ring in the new year with a dip in Greenwich Cove. It was made a bit more challenging because the tide was so low, plungers had to head pretty far out.

For Kim and Paul Cournoyer of Coventry, Wednesday's plunge was their fourth – and it's gotten colder every time.

According to organizer and Laid-Back Fitness guru Ryan McGowan, by Thursday evening, the plunge raised $5,400 for R.I. Mentoring. Congrats, and Happy New Year, East Greenwich!
