Been to the EG Farmer's Market Yet?

The Farmer's Market, located at Academy Field in the heart of the Hill neighborhood, kicked off June 2 and it marks the 7th season for the market, which welcomed Rhode Island Mushroom Company in addition to Matunuck Oyster Bar this year.

Yes, those are locally-grown oysters pictured here at the East Greenwich Farmer's Market.

The delicious specimens are straight from Potter's Pond via the Matunuck Oyster bar, aquaculturist Perry Raso's successful farm-to-table enterprise at the forefront of a bourgeoning state industry.

The Farmer's Market, located at Academy Field in the heart of the Hill neighborhood, kicked off June 2 and it marks the 7th season for the market, which welcomed Rhode Island Mushroom Company in addition to Matunuck Oyster Bar this year.

They join local favorite Pat's Pastured, Appetito, Brave Wood Fired Pizza, Little River Farm, Narrow Lane Orchard, Scharter Farms, The Coffee Guy, Wild Harvest Bakery, Luckyfoot Ranch and more.

The market is the perfect example of how today's farmer's market isn't just a place to get amazing locally-grown produce. You can stock the pantry, get some fresh free-range and organic meat and whip up an entire meal from these local purveyors, who come each Monday to hawk their wares.

Be sure to follow the market on Facebook for timely updates.

Along with local products, the market is often hosting special events, such as wine pairings with The Savory Grape, oyster shucking lessons, hay rides and more.

The market runs from 3 to 6 p.m.
