Dogs Rule At Thursday’s Main Street Stroll

The parade of dogs and their owners is a benefit for the EG Animal Protection League and Food 4 Paws.

After three years, the dog parade is an increasingly popular feature of the July Main Street Stroll. Sponsored by , the Main Street store, the stroll benefits the and Food 4 Paws. Participants who registered could compete in a costume contest at the end of the parade.

Paraders mustered at the parking lot before setting off with police escorts down Main Street, much to the delight of strollers. Some people just happened on the canine confab, including EG stalwarts Jim and Janet Essex, who were driving south on Main Street as the parade was setting out.

“We just came up and found a space,” said Jim Essex. In the backseat was their granddaughter, 9-year-old Lillian, who only lamented that she’d left her dog, Tennie, at home.
