EG Historic Cemetery Commission Needs Cleanup Help

Volunteers sought to help clean up several local historical cemeteries.

The East Greenwich Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission is holding its first ever cleanup on May 3 and volunteers are needed to help in the effort.

Rhode Island is home to numerous historic cemeteries, some small, some large, most of which are tucked in small spots on private property. Within their perimeters are names that grace street signs, historic buildings and history books.

Though many cemeteries are hard to access or on private property that the public can't easily reach, many others are often hidden in plain sight.

In East Greenwich, the East Greenwich Historical Cemetery Advisory Commission is hoping to clean up several local historical cemeteries at the same time it helps spread awareness.

The cleanup is on May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon and the following cemeteries will be cleaned:

Cemeteries 23, 24 and 25 on Cedar Avenue; cemetery 31 on Sleepy Hollow Road; and cemetery 62 on Wine Street.
