East Greenwich firefighters may have a contract by early September, if current optimism holds, according to parties involved in the negotiations.

Police Log: Domestic Problems, Fake Prescriptions

Sunday, Aug. 4, 8:19 a.m. – Police went to Blu on the Water after receiving a report of overflowing trash dumpsters. Police found two dumpsters there filled to overflowing and trash littered in the parking lot area. They spoke with kitchen staff, who went out immediately to clean up the strewn trash and they told police they would try to get the dumpsters emptied that morning.

Armed Gunman Holds Up Main St. Shell

A man holding a handgun robbed an employee at Main Street Shell Monday night, making off with “a few hundred” dollars, police reported Tuesday.

Council Begins Reviewing Town Manager Applications

Six weeks after the departure of longtime Town Manager Bill Sequino, the Town Council is ready to sit down and review applications for his successor. That’s no easy task since it has 40 such applications to review, including one submitted by interim Town Manager Tom Coyle, who is EG’s police chief.

EG Parent Named In Winning Suit Against Department Of Ed

Tina Egan of East Greenwich has worked hard for the past 11 years to make sure her daughter received as inclusive an education as possible. Tessa Egan, 17, was born with Down syndrome and an intellectual disability, but she has completed her coursework and advanced each year with her typically developing peers. In less than three weeks, Tessa will begin her senior year at East Greenwich High School.

My Favorite Mistake

I am hoping that East Greenwich High School students make lots of mistakes this year. In addition, I am hoping that they also take all kinds of risks. Now before parents start dialing up the Superintendent’s office asking him to intervene, give me a chance to explain myself. You see, it is my opinion that mistakes mean you are seeking out new opportunities. You are taking a chance at a new club. You are trying out for a team or a school play. Maybe, you are even giving new subject matter a try.
