Changing The Agenda

Using standardized tests and the common core, reformers have put students, teachers and schools on warning that they had better improve (or keep up). In doing this they have ignored one key component of accountability. What has been overlooked is leadership accountability.

Odeum Needs $60,000 Before Performances Can Resume

The Greenwich Odeum, whichreopened to great fanfare last January, is trying once again to pull together supporters and much-needed cash so it can resume hosting performances. The board decided to shutter the theater in June, postponing three shows that were booked for the summer months, because of the $30,000 in debt it had accumulated since reopening.

Every-Other-Week Recycling To Begin In September

Get ready, East Greenwich, because change is coming. We don’t have an exact date, but Department of Public Works Director Joe Duarte said the program is planning on starting the new every-other-week recycle pickup program in September – next month.

Obituary: John V. Brennan, 68

John V. Brennan, age 68, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2013 at home. Born in Providence, a son of the late Herbert V. and Betty L. (Woodmansee) Brennan, he was a lifelong area resident, having also lived in Warwick for many years. John was a loving caretaker for his late parents.

Police Log: Pink Paint, Hit-And-Run, Party House

Tuesday, July 23, 10:10 p.m. – The manager of the Greenwich Hotel told police a guest at the hotel from June 17 to July 13 had skipped out on his bill of $170.80 and she wished to pursue the matter.
