RI Historian Caranci to Give Book Talk Later this Month

RI Deputy Secretary of State, historian and author Paul F. Caranci will speak about his book, The Hanging & Redemption of John Gordon: The True Story of Rhode Island's Last Execution, at Symposium Books on Thursday, July 28, 2014 at 6:00 P.M.

RI Deputy Secretary of State, historian and author Paul F. Caranci will speak about his book, The Hanging & Redemption of John Gordon: The True Story of Rhode Island's Last Execution, at Symposium Books on Thursday, July 28, 2014 at 6:00 P.M.

Although the book describes the events leading up to the murder of Amasa Sprague, the framing of an entire family of Irish Catholic immigrants, and the execution of a 29 year old innocent man, Paul's discussion considers such timely issues as the death penalty and the impact of hatred, prejudice and bigotry on society.

Signed copies of Paul's book, selected by the Providence Journal as one of the top 5 non-fiction books of 2013, will be available for purchase after the presentation.
